Malawi’s speaker of parliament, Louis Chimango says he is concerned over the manner in which african countries in Southern African Development SADC community exercise their executive powers.
Chimango made the remarks in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital city during the opening of the 5th SADC organizations on public accounts committees.
He also expressed concern in the manner on how southern African countries courts operate as they seem to side with governments of the day when discharging their duties.
Chimango also commented on subjudice rule, which bars heads of national assemblies in the region to comment on matters in court.
According to him, the rule obstructs operations of parliament such that it fails to discharge its oversight function on the executive arm of government.
With the development he said most African parliaments seem not to work efficiently and effectively.
The meeting has drawn together chairpersons of Parliamentary Accounts Committees from South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania and the host Malawi.
