Malawi’s former television presenter Lekeni Takomana (nee Kafwafwa) was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly being found in possession of a forged Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) and some other false documents.
The accused spent a night at Blantyre police station before being granted bail of K3, 000.00 cash and one surety of K20.000.00 not in cash at Blantyre magistrate court yesterday. She is expected to appear before court on October 20.
This period has been given because the prosecutor, inspector Eunice Kaswamveka, will be at school but in the meantime she will be reporting to Blantyre police every Thursday,” said Blantyre police public relations officer Elizabeth Divala.
Divala said Kafwafwa 26, was found in possession of a fake certificate which she bought in 1998 at only K500.00 through a friend.
Divala said the former TVM presenter denied the charge of illegal possession of a certificate and altering false documents contrary to section 360 of the panel code.
According to Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) Examination security officer Eston Mtambalika, TVM sent certificates of its employees to them to verify after which was found out that Kafwafwa and TVM cameraman Augustine Mauwa have fake MSCE papers.
Kafwafwa was arrested on Wednesday but she us currently on bail.
